Ayurveda and Western Medicine

The seers of ancient India developed the foundations of Ayurveda 2,000 years ago so that humans could master their highest intellectual and spiritual potentials, unencumbered by the energy drain caused by physical pain and disease. The “Science of Life” has since been practiced and refined continuously, and is now proving its timeless relevance as an effective remedy for the numerous stresses of living in the 21st century.
While Western medicine excels in managing acute emergency conditions through modern diagnostic, pharmaceutical and surgical technologies, the Ayurvedic approach views Health much more broadly – to include feeling balanced, easeful, energized and thriving in everyday life. Simple shifts in mindset and choices can lead to a life that’s free from physical distress and also actually worth living.
Of note: Ayurveda will always encourage a synthesis of Eastern and Western medicine; the two work beautifully together, and there’s no need to choose one system over the other. In turn, allopathic medical studies are beginning to acknowledge the greatness of Ayurvedic principles such as the overarching mind-body connection; the gut microbiome as a determining factor in health outcomes; yoga as a strategy for healing trauma; sleep hygiene as an antidote for chronic insomnia; and the physical health benefits arising from attaining meaning and purpose in one’s life.
